freeform Living is 340 page document and is design proposal co-designed with the feedback of my collaborators and friends. It reimagines the abandoned Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan, originally developed by A. Alfred Taubman who coined the term “threshold resistance”- The removal of every barrier between the customer and the merchandise. The project critiques how architecture has historically embraced barrier-free design only when it serves profit, highlighting the instability of access tied to capitalism. By transforming this “dead mall” into a Community Land Trust (CLT), the project proposes a future in which accessibility is no longer a market-driven feature, but a permanent right rooted in mutual care, support and maintenance.
